Avoiding Common Wedding Planning Mistakes
By : Lucy Peters
Planning a wedding is hard enough without our human propensity to forget things. Then when we forget something significant or don't plan well enough, something is bound to go wrong. Items that are valuable or significant may be forgotten or something could happen to make you late leaving the reception hall, which ultimately ends up costing more.
| It is important to take precautions during the planning of your wedding so you can avoid missing steps or forgetting steps altogether. Here are five easy ways to avoid very common wedding mistakes.
1. Regulate the amount of people on your guest list. A big part of planning a wedding is the amount of people that you plan to have attend the wedding. If you continue to add more and more names each day, wedding costs are sure to increase. This could also mean that you do not have a location large enough to seat everyone comfortably.
Know the general that about 80-85% of the guests you invite to your wedding will show. It is highly critical that you take unexpected guests into consideration. Plan your wedding as if everyone you invited will be there. |

2. Be aware of the laws in your area. Based on the area you live in you need to be aware of what is required to obtain a marriage license. Some states require blood test whereas others do not; some may have a waiting period after you apply for a license and other differences are how long a license is good for. This will help to avoid any unpleasant surprises on your wedding day.
If you planned your wedding to take place in a church, be aware of what dress and music are suitable. Some churches have strict requirements about the wedding ceremony. To get this information, contact your officiant.
3. Be sure that all vendors dealing with your wedding know the specific details. These people will need to know the time, date, and location, but besides these details, vendors will also need to know other things. Visit each vendor a week or so before your wedding to make sure that all of the little details are correct. It is a good idea to make a list of the vendors you plan to use with their contact information to have on during your wedding incase something goes wrong.
4. Make sure that all of the beauty treatments you plan to get are done a few weeks before your wedding. If you plan to dye or get a tan for your wedding, do it well before incase something goes wrong. Do not wait to the last minute. Something could go wrong with your hair dye or you might get burned while tanning, so be sure you do all of this ahead of time so you have time to fix anything that might go wrong.
5. Be prepared. Of course we can't see what the future will bring, so having alternate plans is a must. For example if you are planning your wedding for outside then make sure that you have an alternate location indoors just in case the weather turns to rain. You should also see that someone is in charge of having an emergency sewing kit, first aid supplies or any other items that may possibly be needed...just in case. |
