Give yourself plenty of time to select stationary. Invitations should go out 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding.
- Save-the-date cards : These are necessary for guests who will be traveling to the wedding, if the wedding will take place on or near a holiday or if the wedding is a faraway destination wedding. Not everyone who receives an invitation must receive a save-the-date card, but everyone who receives a save-the-date card must receive an invitation.
- Wedding invitations : In general, couples choose their wedding invitations first and then build the rest of the wedding stationery package around the invitation design.
- Response cards : Because these will go out with the invitations, they should be ordered with them and be similar in design.
- Reception cards : These are necessary if the reception will take place somewhere other than the ceremony site. Like the response cards, they should be ordered with the invitations and should closely match them in design.
- Wedding programs : A favorite keepsake, the wedding program tells guests who's doing what when during the ceremony and also offers a place for thank-yous and memorials. Though the program often has a different look than the invitation, using the same font, colors or a design element will tie them together.
- Wedding announcements : These go to people who did not receive an invitation to the wedding. They generally match the invitation style.
- Table cards, place cards, menus and favor tags : Though the reception stationery will often be printed on different paper than the invitations and have a different look, using the same font, colors and/or motif will help tie everything together.
- Thank-you cards : An absolute must for manners, thank-you cards will likely be the last correspondence guests receive related to the wedding, so it's a nice touch for them to echo the other stationery design.
